While speaking during an exclusive interview at KTN television on Wednesday, 10th, December 2025, Rigathi Gachagua indicated that before the by-election was done, elders from Mbeere North secretly approached him and told him that clan dynamics was a key factor in determining who would win the by-election in Mbeere North.
Coincidentally, Newton Kariuki alias Karish who was vying for the seat under Democratic Party (DP) ticket and Duncan Mbui of DCP were hailing from the same clan, and the elders argued that one of the two had to be sacrificed by being dropped out of the race.
The elders argued that having two candidates from the same clan, contesting for one seat would serve as a massive loophole, to spoil for the opposition and give way for Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende, who was vying under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
As a result, DCP party withdrew Dancan Mbui's candidature to allow Newton Karish face his fierce rival Leonard Wamuthende.
Unexpected by DCP, Duncan Mbui defected to CCK party being spearheaded by former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service, Hon Moses Kuria, who according to Gachagua, spoilt the chance of Karish winning the race.
As per Gachagua's pronouncement, Mbui was fronted by Kuria’s CCK, to split the critical clan-based votes that would have secured a win for Karish.
In a controversial fashion, Gachagua alleged that the entire plan was orchestrated by the government after smelling advantage of CCK vulnerability, which according to Gachagua, is one of the many wheelbarrows owned by Ruto.
