However, it was the flamboyant Chinga Ward MCA, Kiruga Thuku, who stole the spotlight.
His energetic hosting style and visible influence on the ground overshadowed many leaders present, drawing attention from both residents and the national leadership.
Rigathi Gachagua openly praised Kiruga, describing him as one of his most loyal allies during difficult political moments while serving as Deputy President.
He also thanked Chinga voters for re-electing Kiruga for a second term, terming it a vote of confidence.
Exactly 246 days later, the political atmosphere changed dramatically when Rigathi was impeached.
According to Wahome Thuku, an advocate of the High Court, the impeachment shocked many Kenyans across political divides, including those in Azimio.
Wahome argues that Rigathi appeared to expect Kiruga to immediately fall out with President Ruto following the impeachment.
In his view, loyalty was suddenly redefined, with Kiruga being labeled a traitor despite remaining consistent in his political stance.
During Rigathi’s last visit to Othaya, he urged residents to vote Kiruga out, a move Wahome interprets as misplaced expectations of automatic political fallout. Notably, the impeachment did not originate from county assemblies.
With President Ruto set to return to Chinga this Sunday, Kiruga is once again taking center stage in hosting him. Wahome concludes that expecting an MCA to abandon long-held alliances within eight months is both unrealistic and unfair.
