Mary Gathii, a Grade 9 learner at Ndima Kanini Academy in Karatina, emerged among the top performers with an impressive 71 out of 72 points.
The results were officially released on Thursday, December 11, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, marking a major milestone in the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
More than one million learners sat for the assessment, which will guide placement into senior school pathways.
Mary’s school celebrated her achievement in a glowing post on social media, revealing her exceptional performance across all subjects.
According to the shared breakdown, she scored Exceeds Expectations One (EE1) in English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Agriculture, Social Studies, Christian Religious Education, Creative Arts and Sports.
She registered an Exceeds Expectations Two (EE2) in Pretechnical Studies. With EE1 valued at eight points and EE2 at seven, Mary’s cumulative score totalled 71 points.
Teachers and parents from Ndima Kanini Academy praised the bright student for her consistent discipline and hard work, while Kenyans online sent congratulatory messages wishing her success as she prepares for senior high school.
“Congratulations, beautiful girl. I am a proud parent of Ndima Kanini Academy,” wrote one parent. Another added, “Thank you for representing our school so well.”
While releasing the results, CS Ogamba noted that seven subjects recorded high proportions of learners meeting or exceeding expectations, with Creative Arts and Sports leading at 96.84%.
He affirmed that the results were strong enough for most learners to transition confidently into their respective senior school pathways.
In a separate case from Elgeyo Marakwet, another Grade 9 girl also drew attention after posting outstanding results, leaving her family overjoyed.
Her relatives said she had always maintained exemplary performance and dreams of becoming a doctor.
As Mary Gathii’s accomplishment continues to inspire many, her teachers say they are confident she will excel even further in her academic journey.
