Natambeya under siege as prominent politicians plot to impeach him while UDA unveil his replacement

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is facing mounting pressure from a coalition of political opponents spanning the national government and opposition parties.

Key figures, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, have openly declared their intention to end his tenure, with some pushing for impeachment.

The movement against Natembeya intensified after Ford Kenya, Wetang’ula’s party, lost the governor’s seat in 2022.

Now, rivals accuse him of tribalism and undermining President Ruto’s development agenda. 

Internally, the national government has tightened its grip by delaying funds and blocking foreign financing for the county.

Amid the pressure, Natembeya’s political future remains a puzzle.

While he is viewed as a potential presidential running mate in 2027, his strained relationship with his DAP-K party leader, Eugene Wamalwa, adds uncertainty to his reelection bid.

Meanwhile, UDA is strategizing to claim the governorship, with Senator Allan Chesang being positioned as a likely candidate.
