The revelation was made by former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, who is the chairperson of the Jirongo funeral planning committee.
Khaniri said the family and close associates had identified major gaps that required further scrutiny only days after the fatal crash along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway.
He expressed serious concern over whether Jirongo actually drove himself to Naivasha, stating that the late politician had been in Karen at around eleven at night before indicating he was heading home to Gigiri.
"So me, I don't think he drove to Naivasha willingly, and I don't think he even drove himself to Naivasha," former Vihiga Senator Khaniri said.
The family questioned how he later ended up in Naivasha, which is in the opposite direction from his residence and a place they insist he had no known business.
Khaniri further raised questions over how police accessed Jirongo's mobile phone and why officers chose to contact one wife despite the former minister having multiple spouses and having last communicated with other senior leaders shortly before his death.
Additional concerns were raised about the nature of the injuries sustained.
According to the family, Jirongo reportedly suffered visible injuries only on his ankles, while the rest of his body remained largely intact despite the extensive damage to the vehicle.
The contrast has intensified calls for a thorough forensic examination.
The family stated that while government agencies continue with their investigations, they would pursue an independent probe to establish the truth and eliminate speculation.
A postmortem examination has been scheduled for Tuesday at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi as the family and the nation await clearer answers surrounding the tragic death.
